By The Logan Quintet. Composed by Anon. 15th Century. Arranged by Stephen Mitton. This edition: pdf. Chamber, Christmas, Classical, Holiday, Medieval. 2 pages. Stephen Mitton Music #1293850. Published by Stephen Mitton Music (A0.1743772).

This short and haunting arrangement of the 15th century carol for string trio was written as an introduction for my arrangement of "What Child Is This?" for solo piano, but it stands on its own as a beautiful addition to any Christmas concert or recital. With the second violin part acting as a drone, the outer parts move in contrary motion in glorious two-part counterpoint, evoking either Medieval vocal organum or the melancholy sound of the hurdy-gurdy. It was recorded for The Logan Quintet's 2020 release Glad Tidings.
