A setting of the "Nunc Dimittis" ("Lord, now let your servant depart in peace") by Philip Le Bas. This version is for SSA choir and organ. Besides being sung at every Choral Evensong/Vespers in many churches, the canticle is particularly appropriate at Candlemas celebrations, as well as at services expressing "letting go..." The words of the "Nunc Dimittis" are those of the prophet Simeon (Luke 2:29-32) on seeing the child Jesus in the Temple at Jerusalem:
My eyes have seen your light.
Lord, now let your servant depart in peace, according to your word. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of every people A light to reveal you to the nations and to be the glory of Israel your people. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be.
My eyes have seen your light.
