Dear Musician,This choral work began as a song, yes a song, not a choral work, but a song that began with the title phrase "Now is the time to dream." And that phrase sat with me for a long while. It was then that I began the laborious work of the lyric, which all songwriters new and experienced understand can be difficult at times.I began to think on people's dreams. How so many of us dream of things we want to do, to experience, but never do. I have had friends and family members mention things that are on their bucket list and soon they WERE on their bucket list. The time had passed. So the lyrics of "Not tomorrow but today.....for today will quickly fade away" came to be. I also wrote of the image of the day ending as the sun sets and when the day is done. We forget those dreams we dreamed. We save those thoughts for another day. But when we look at "our truth," whatever that may be for each of us, there is a fire that burns and that fire can set us free to make our dreams come true.Melody and harmony usually comes more easily for me and as I write text, the music usually comes naturally during the process. Usually. Not always!I always struggle for what the introduction should be and I simply wrote what I was doing as I wrote the text. "Close your eyes. Imagine what can be. Feel the breeze of life against your skin." In other words, stop! Sit. Listen. Feel life! Focus on what your heart wants. What your heart needs. You will "truly start to see..."I ended the piece with a touch of that same thought. That we continue to think and feel and take time to dream. But also take the time to make our dreams come true for "now is the time to dream."I hope you will enjoy learning and performing this song that I've arranged into a choral work. I hope you will discuss your dreams, how this text fits in your own life, share your heart with your friends, your teacher, your family and also with yourself.Greg Gilpin.
