Notturno Arranged for Young String Quartet
Directors should consider this arrangement in combination with Caputo’s arrangement of Helena Polka as a nice change of pace creating a Borodin medley. Of its four movements, the third movement "Notturno,” is the most famous movement of Borodin’s 1881, String Quartet No. 2 in D major. . Some scholars suggest that It was dedicated to his wife Ekaterina Protopova as a 20th anniversary gift and that it has a program evoking the couple's first meeting in Heidelberg. The solo cello part in the original is distributed to other voices to maintain student interest. A Violin III part, Substitute for Viola is included.
