I was lovesick and could not sleep. The eighth notes in the beginning are a representation of crickets outside the window of my studio. When I first played the principle theme (bar 9) tears landed on the keys. The B section (beginning at bar 18) quotes Chopin’s Op. 10, No. 3. The diatonic cluster in bar 21 represents the joining of hearts.
