Finnish music has had no shortage of women composers. Although many of them had their works published and otherwise created a successful career in music, they are virtually nowhere to be found in later histories of Finnish music. The 22 solo songs in the present anthology present a cross-section of an extensive, diverse and fascinating area of musical culture in which solo songs and woman composers flourished, in Finland and elsewhere.
