Night Music was commissioned by Guitar magazine in 1976 to provide good quality music of moderate difficulty. It is a sound-painting of the hours of darkness, using bi-tonality and unique technical effects. The piece explores the sound possibilities of the guitar and develops from its first section. The central agitato section represents a sense of panic, with an absence of steady metre in the whole piece, except the Serenade section.
