New Mexico March by John Philip Sousa Brass Quintet - Digital Sheet Music

By John Philip Sousa
Brass Ensemble, Brass Quintet Euphonium, French Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Tuba - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1818891

Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Matthew Nunes. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Chamber, Classical, Historic, March. 33 pages. Matthew Nunes Music #1379015. Published by Matthew Nunes Music (A0.1818891).

John Philip Sousa’s distinct New Mexico (March) is a tribute to the 47th state and dedicated “To Governor R. C. Dillon and the people of New Mexico”. Sousa used a handful of songs throughout, most notably Elizabeth Garrett’s O, Fair New Mexico (whose father killed Billy the Kid). There are many unusual moments for Sousa, such as the Trio and Rallentando, which made this march a joy to explore while arranging.

This Brass Quintet arrangement was made using “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band’s The Complete Marches of John Philip Sousa score as found at https://www.marineband.marines.mil/Audio-Resources/The-Complete-Marches-of-John-Philip-Sousa/. New Mexico March was composed in 1928, and the referenced edition was made Public Domain in 2024. The piece is catalogued as Volume 6, No. 112.

Section titles (such as “First Strain” and “Trio”) follow the measure numbers provided by that edition. Each instrument follows its full-band part as often as possible, the only exception being Trombone covering the Euphonium/Baritone part. Because of this, Euphonium/Baritone would make a suitable substitute.
