New Directions for Strings
Found this book to be well organized, moving fast enough, but not easy for my students. Covers lots of ground. Students progressed faster with NDFS than with previous books I've used. Good for beginners, while the 2nd book is very useful for early intermediate.

Good Challenge
I use this book in my orchestra class at school and have found it to be a good challenge. My students were moving through the original method book too fast and not taking the time to really focus and master the concepts being taught. This book made them slow down and take their time to get it right. They also enjoy the ensemble pieces. I like that it includes all the open strings in the beginning and students don;t play the D and A strings for most of the book.

Useful
I bought this primarily for the key on the inside of the back cover (which shows all of the notes clearly with what finger on which string gives each)... The book has lots of very clear and simple instructions and is a fantastic starter book with good use of colour and the CD is also good... I just need to get the practice in. I use this book alongside my Suzuki one... and it is really helping.

New Directions for Strings (Violin Book 1)
I do not care for the layout in this book at all and would not recommend it to any teacher. It includes information that I feel is not needed for the beginner and would be confusing at first. I would like to return this book because I am not going to use it for any new students.
