“Nazareno de Icod” – Processional March by Jesús Agomar
“Nazareno de Icod” is a solemn processional march by Jesús Agomar, composed for symphonic wind band and inspired by the venerated image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno in Icod de los Vinos (Tenerife, Canary Islands). Conceived as a musical meditation for Holy Week, the piece unfolds in long-breathed melodies, warm brass sonorities, and a dignified rhythmic pulse that evokes the steady pace of the procession.
The score’s expressive arc moves from austere contemplation to an affirming climax, mirroring the spiritual journey of the faithful as they accompany Christ carrying the Cross. Orchestrated for full band, its refined textures—cantabile woodwinds, noble flugelhorns and cornets, and a restrained yet ceremonial percussion—create an atmosphere of devotion and inward prayer.
Dedicated to the Nazareno of Icod, the march has become part of the local musical heritage and has been recorded by the Agrupación Musical Cruz Santa of Los Realejos, helping to preserve and disseminate its sound beyond the streets where it was born. With a duration of about six minutes, “Nazareno de Icod” stands as both a tribute to the town’s centuries-old piety and a modern contribution to the Canarian repertoire of processional music.
