Oboe, Oboe Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.1537629

Composed by Brenda Portman. This edition: pdf. 21st Century, Advent, Christmas, Classical, Sacred. Individual part. 22 pages. Brenda Portman #1110569. Published by Brenda Portman (A0.1537629).

A work for solo oboe, unaccompanied except for the addition of a drum in the fifth movement.
Six movements, with each telling part of the Nativity story from the perspective of the women - particularly Elizabeth, Mary, Anna and the mothers of Bethlehem.
If performed without the optional readings, the length is about 20 minutes. With the readings, the context and understanding of the story is greatly enhanced, but the length will be about 15 minutes longer.

From the program notes:
"Through the stories of the women of the Nativity we experience very human feelings: the longing for a child; the fear of the consequences that come with an unexpected pregnancy; the fear of childbirth; the pain and messiness of the birth itself; the hope and excitement for the future balanced with the fear of the unknown; the bitter, inconsolable grief of losing a child to death – especially in the context of genocide. Each movement of this work attempts to tap into these experiences and feelings, and invites the listener to ponder the mystery of the incarnation – that is, to ponder the en-fleshing of God as fully human and the implications of this mystery.".
