Nikolai Girshevich Kapustin (1937-2020) was a virtuoso jazz pianist and prolific composer. His biography is quite remarkable. Born in the small Ukrainian town of Horlivka, he subsequently enrolled at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor Goldenweiser. He gained his extensive experience as a jazz pianist while playing in O. Lundstrem's Big Band in Moscow. His responsibilities included various arrangements for this orchestra, which undoubtedly inspired him to compose. It is worth noting that his experience was based not only on jazz improvisation but also on his deep and serious experience and training as a virtuoso classical pianist. This unique combination of classical and jazz led him to devote himself exclusively to composition beginning in 1980. During his active career, he gained international renown and wrote 161 opuses of various jazz-inspired works. With the consent and approval of the author, I orchestrated and combined into a Symphonic-Jazz Suite the 4 preludes from his Concert Etudes for piano, op. 40.
