Frederick (A0.1887152).“My Blue Heaven” is a classic popular song written by Walter Donaldson with lyrics by George A. Whiting, introduced in the 1927 Ziegfeld Follies. It became a major hit for Gene Austin in 1928 and went on to become one of the best-known standards of the early 20th century.
Gene Austin’s 1928 recording was enormous: it stayed at number one for 13 weeks, charted for 26 weeks, and reportedly sold over five million copies worldwide. That recording is often credited with helping define the early crooner style of singing, which fit the new microphone era.
The song has been covered by a wide range of performers, including Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Coleman Hawkins, Leon Redbone, and Fats Domino. It also showed up as a title song for films, which helped keep it in the public ear across generations.
