The VIOLIN plays the melody for the first verse, PIANO on the second verse, then concludes with the CELLO on the melody for the third verse. The original lyrics for this hymn tune MAITLAND were written by Thomas Shepherd and unknown others and are printed below. Using this same hymn tune, Thomas A. Dorsey penned new lyrics in 1932 and his song titled "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" became one of the most beloved and familiar hymns of the 20th century.
