It is said to have been played by the Scottish Troops in 8 Mai 1429 upon Joan of Arc’s arrival at Orleans. The Scottish military have been using Bagpipes since the 15th century so this is quite possible.
In France the March is sometimes played at official ceremonies: during review of troops, funerals or whilst thanking standard-bearers at the end of a parade.
LE MARCHE DES SOLDATS DE ROBERT BRUCE is here arranged for small ensemble: a minimum of four voices with some flexibility in instrumentation along with the possibility to add extra instrumental parts (including Clairon) and percussion.
LA MARCHE DES SOLDATS ROBERT BRUCE est basée sur l'air de « SCOTS WHA HAE». On raconte qu'elle fut jouée par les troupes écossaises le 8 mai 1429, lors de l'arrivée de Jeanne d'Arc à Orléans. L'armée écossaise utilisant la cornemuse depuis le XVe siècle, cette hypothèse est tout à fait plausible.
En France, cette marche est parfois jouée lors de cérémonies officielles : revue des troupes, funérailles ou en remerciement aux porte-drapeaux à la fin d'un défilé.
La Marche des Soldats de Robert Bruce est ici arrangée pour petit ensemble : un minimum de quatre voix, avec une certaine flexibilité dans l'instrumentation et la possibilité d'ajouter des parties instrumentales supplémentaires (dont un clairon) et des percussions.
