Musical Offering, BWV 1079
Volume 3: Canons for Flute, two Violins, obbligato Harpsichord (Piano) and Basso continuo by Johann Sebastian Bach Flute - Sheet Music
Volume 3: Canons for Flute, two Violins, obbligato Harpsichord (Piano) and Basso continuo. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Christoph Wolff. This edition: urtext edition. Stapled. Barenreiter Urtext. Score, Set of parts. BWV 1079. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA05156. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA05156).
ISBN 9790006465873. 12.2 x 9.57 inches.
In 1747 Bach visited King Frederick II in Potsdam where he improvised over a theme provided by the king. The ricercar for three voices most likely reflects the notated improvisation. The six-part ricercar represents the Fugue in six obbligato parts subsequently requested by the king, which Bach supplemented with the canons contained in this edition (volume III).
