MUSIC FOR FRIENDS is a four volume collection of folk melodies from all around the world that can be studied independently or in a variety of groupings. While created for beginning and young instrumentalists, these pieces could be used by anyone. They are in open scoring and accessible with as few as two wind players and as many as are available in almost any combination of instruments. The folk melodies are also excellent to use as warm-ups because they can serve the purpose while also providing aesthetic value.
When my young daughter was studying Suzuki Cello, the teacher invited a group of her students to perform at the annual Folk Festival held in Pittsburgh. I thought it would be useful if they had some folk material to play for the occasion in addition to the material in their Suzuki Books. I began to search for material from many regions and arranged them for ‘Cello ensemble. Later I expanded the collection resulting in this collection.
