Source: These eight Piano Variations, K. 613, were composed by Mozart in 1791, during the last year of his life. They are based on the theme "Ein Weib ist das herrlichste Ding," a popular stage song from an opera by the librettist Emanuel Schikaneder (1751–1812) and set to music by Benedikt Schack (1758–1826) together with Franz Xaver Gerl (1764–1827).
