Josef Strauss wrote his Moulinet Polka (Little Mill) shortly after his 31st birthday in the summer of 1858 in Russia. With the motif of the mill wheel and its uniform movement Strauss created not only a polka but a delicate character piece. The arrangement is kept in the original key of the composition for symphony orchestra and was commissioned and first time performed by Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg conducted by Hansjoerg Angerer at their "New Year's Concert" on 6 January 2012 at the "Grosses Festspielhaus" (Large Festival Hall) in Salzburg, Austria.
