This motet is the first version of the famous Abendlied "Bleib bei uns" (Evening song) op. 69,3. Rheinberger composed the motet on 9 March 1855, just a few days before his 16th birthday, and only had it printed years later, in 1873. A comparison of the first version with the well-known later printed version (Carus 50.069/20) provides an exciting insight into the composer's creative process.
