This second piece in the series of 'Mosaic' works is written for solo celesta. As in the other Mosaic pieces, a series of early, unrelated sketches were reworked to create this piece. Mosaic II is essentially a series of textural variations on the opening nine bar chord sequence and bass line. The unique timbre and register of the celesta is exploited, creating a mysterious and other-worldly atmosphere. The piece is highly accessible and is appropriate for most standards of celesta player, including students and advanced instrumentalists.
