Moroccan Can-Can is a vibrant original work that blends the driving, playful energy of a Western Galop with the evocative sounds of North African and Middle Eastern music. An original composition based on a the traditional Tahmilah form by Jennifer Mishra (arranger of popular "Pictures at an Exhibition" published by Alfred).
The piece is inspired by the Maqam Shahnaz scale and the Tahmilah form. A Tahmilah is a classical instrumental form featuring alternation between solo instruments and the full ensemble. The upper solos may be played by a violinist or a violist. The lower solos may be played by a cellist or bassist.
This piece provides a sophisticated yet accessible introduction to this world music style.
