Arranged by Mike Strand, ASCAP

This is the score for a "soft rock" or "slow rock" arrangement of the first song in Robert Schumann's Gesänge der Frühe (Morning Songs), Op. 133. This arrangement has accordion (bandoneón), rock organ, snare and bass drums, and two electric guitars.

If your band has a different setup, this score is still handy for making adjustments, so is well worth the price.

The audio sound sample presents the entire score.

This music would be appropriate at a wedding held in the morning.

My arrangement here of Schumann's beautiful piano work is in the style of Phil Spector's lovely 1958 hit, "To Know Him Is to Love Him", performed by the Teddy Bears. Like many slow-dance rock songs of that era, my arrangement uses triplets of 8th notes for each beat.

This style also reminds me of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata", the slow opening movement.

The "Morning Songs" (or "Songs of Dawn"), that is, Gesänge der Frühe, Op. 133, is one of Robert Schumann's last compositions. Historians claim that Schumann was mentally disturbed in his last years. That may be the case, but his composing is "disturbingly" excellent, in my book.

I aimed to preserve the beauty and spirit of Schumann's composition with this arrangement.

For an entertaining performance of all five songs of Gesänge der Frühe, I recommend the performance by Jean Martin, 1972, on a Bösendorfer piano. The YouTube link also shows lovely pictures along with the music:

It runs about 16 minutes, and you may check the quality of my arrangement of Schumann's first "Morning Song", Op. 133.
