Money, Money, Money - Piano Duet Arrangement Arranged by Elena Fortin Words and Music by Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus
Piano Duet arrangement (for one piano, four hands) for late intermediate, early advanced players.
This arrangement is written for piano duet with Primo and Secondo written on the same page so that you can see how the musicians interact with each other! One trick that we like to use is to use a different highlighter for each person and color the bracket at the beginning of each line so that you can see right away which part is yours...
Money, Money, Money is such a catchy tune--it has the riffs that Mr. Andersson and Mr. Ulvaeus are famous for. It has been exciting for me to see a whole new generation of people being introduced to ABBA, most recently through the Mamma Mia! movie and stage franchise.
Piano duets are awesome to arrange for--you get the full keyboard to play with, fun interaction to coordinate, and you get to harness the power of two people playing together. Ensembles are amazing learning opportunities and this music is so fun to play.
I marked this as "late intermediate to early advanced" -- both parts have their challenges! The Secondo part (late intermediate) has alot of the driving rhythm -- lots of bass note octaves to lay down the solid beat, but you get your share of the melody too. Unlike most secondo parts, you will get to play the main melody, doubled by the left hand of the Primo player. The Primo part (early advanced) gets a lot of the melody, some "shot" notes (punctuation for the melody), and some really fun little jazzy riffs that might take some practice to get at speed. The intro section will take a little bit of practice -- you have to get out of each other's way as you share the recognizable opening sequence between the two of you.
There are fun ritardandos between you and your partner (I didn't really do them in the video, because it's hard to record a ritardando with one person!), but feel free to make them as dramatic as you want. You'll get to learn to balance melody and accompaniment, play with dynamics and phrasing, and learning to be quick with the reflexes.
Feel free to add pedal to the parts where you think you need it. I have left it to you to work out fingerings that work for you. (It's possible for the Primo part to split some of the faster runs between the hands if it helps). Please feel free to modify it as needed based on your skills, but above all, have fun!!
Enjoy, Elena.
