Richard Strauss’s Mondscheinmusik (“Moonlight Music”) from his final opera Capriccio is one of his most intimate and reflective works. This concert band arrangement by Luke Thunberg preserves the quiet beauty of the original while reimagining it through the rich colors of the wind ensemble.
Written for moderately advanced ensembles, the arrangement features flowing melodic lines, warm harmonic writing, and numerous solo passages that emerge naturally from the texture. Rather than relying on large tutti moments, the music unfolds through subtle shifts of color and balance, creating a conversational, chamber-like atmosphere that rewards expressive playing and refined ensemble control.
