Composed by Camille Saint-Saens. Arranged by Adrian Dee. This edition: pdf. Chamber, Classical, Opera, Romantic Period, Wedding. 33 pages. Adrian Dee #1400619. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.1841087).

Saint-Saëns’ opera “Samson and Delilah” premiered in Weimar on Dec. 2, 1877. Delilah sings this song (“My heart opens itself to your voice”) to Samson in the second act love scene. According to Wikipedia, it has become “one of the most popular recital pieces in the mezzo-soprano/contralto repertoire.”

This arrangement is for piccolo, four C-flutes, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes. The piece is slow and gentle, running aprox. 5 ½ minutes. It is written in five flats (six for the altos!) and contains a romantic smattering of double-flats and chromaticism. The form is ABAB, the A sections in 3 / 4 and the B sections in 4 / 4. A perfect “contrast” piece in a recital program to offset something else flashy, or play it at your next wedding!
