Moments Musicaux, opus 94, by Franz Schubert from 1828 is of course one of his major works for solo piano. It made such an impression on Sergei Rachmaninoff that he wrote his own version of Moments Musicaux, opus 16, in 1896.
I was looking for some instrumental work to do after my "Dix Mélodies d'après Georges Bizet" for soprano and piano and I noticed that the last time I wrote a piece for solo piano, albeit for the Fender Rhodes, was opus 262. That was ten pieces ago ...
Needless to say, I have to do a solo piano piece next!!! How about a TOL version of Schubert's Moments??? Why not??? What about Rachmaninoff's Moments??? To be honest the Rachmaninoff version is rather obtuse and doesn't go anywhere, at least to my ears. Schubert is the way to go ... LOL!!!
Just like the Schubert and the Rachmaninoff, my Moments Musicaux is in six movements.
