This Paul Moen arrangement of the John Coltrane standard was written for Lionel Hampton's European tour of 1976 and then recorded a year later by Buddy Rich (with 3 tenors) and by Lionel Hampton in 1978. Though the arrangement was written for the instrumentation that Hampton used in 1976, when it was recorded by Hampton it was altered to fit the 1978 band's lineup of alto sax, tenor sax, and 2 trumpets. We have published the original version with 6 horns and included a shout chorus section that was omitted for the recording. There is an open solo section with cued backgrounds (backgrounds were also cut for the recording). Ranges: Trumpet 1: to D6 Trombone 1: Bb4.
