Originally performed by the Paul Winter Consort, Missa Gaia is a contemporary ecumenical and ecological Mass celebrating the Earth. The work features the Consort's trademark lyrical melodies with dynamic rhythms from African, Brazilian and American gospel traditions, incorporating Mass and biblical texts and interweaving the voices of wolf, whale and harp seals. This publication contains newly edited and revised versions of the choral movements, set for mixed choir and keyboard with optional instrumental accompaniment, enabling Missa Gaia to be performed in both liturgical settings and concert halls. Publications available: SATB score, Sound Cues CD (animal voices) and Instrumental Score and Parts for Soprano Sax, Oboe/English Horn, Cello, Piano, Organ, Guitar, Bass and Percussion. Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) CD
Missa Gaia is unlike most masses in that it has animal sounds as an integral part of it. And the musical motives used in several of the movements are based directly on animal sounds. The music is excellent.
