Minuet in Four is for an Advanced Intermediate Concert Band, and may sound familiar because it’s a fun, pop-rock version of the 18th century piece Minuet in G. This thrilling arrangement will make a great concert or contest piece because it has some distinctive features of its own.* First, it shares the flavor of the original by using a traditional chamber wind quintet for the opening measures. * Then it morphs into a lively pop version that employs alternate chords and modal settings, counter motion and counter-melodic elements, prepared fifths instead of the modern suspension, and an uplifting key change.* It’s rated as Advanced Intermediate because a few of the instruments have parts that go just outside the range of an Intermediately skilled musician, as well as a few rhythms that may take a little work.* Unlike the 1965 hit, A Lover’s Concerto, this has both A and B sections in a variety of restatements.If you would like your Concert Band to gain more media exposure, please record your performance of this piece and email it to [email protected].
