Although Richard Strauss was one of the greatest masters of instrumentation in music history, he never scored himself one of his compositions for wind band or military band. Perhaps because band music was open-air music and timbre effects were not the primary goal of these ensembles. So he scored his two Military Marches op. 57 for romantic symphony orchestra and dedicated them to the German emperor Wilhelm II. The arrangement is kept in the original key for symphony orchestra and was originally written for the 2014 St. Cecilia's Concert of the Municipal Band of Zirl, Tyrol, Austria conducted by Albert Schwarzmann and second time performed in October 2017 by the academy orchestra of Mozarteum Wind Philharmonic Salzburg at a master recital at Mozarteum University in Salzburg, Austria.
