Mikhail Glinka was the first Russian composer to gain wide recognition within his own country and his most famous work was his second opera Ruslan and Lyudmila in which a distictive style was acheived from folk music of the period . This arrangement of "The Skylark" originally for solo piano features short passages imitating bird song followed by a simple melody with accompaniment. The duet would make an ideal encore for a concert and would be a popular piece for street performance.
