This incredibly expressive lyrical work has a mature sound, contemporary harmonies, and intricate textures. Approachable by the youngest of bands yet more than appropriate for middle school bands as well. As a bonus, the work comes with three chorales (each with a particular teaching concept) to further develop sound and intonation.

I had the pleasure of playing this piece as part of the Fairfax Wind Symphony's new music clinic at the VMEA convention in 2006. We loved it so much we included it as part of our performance at the Midwest Clinic that December, in a program that included Menin's Canzona and Della Joio's Variations on a Medieval Tune. I've never seen a group work so hard to make 6 notes sound perfect, and it was well worth the effort. As a result, it stands as one of my favorite pieces I've ever played, ranking right up there with the likes of Lincolnshire Posy and La Fiesta Mexicana. I kid you not. Dedicate yourself to extracting every ounce out of this piece, and you'll fall in love it it, no matter the age or grade level of your players.
