Mexican Hat Dance (Jarabe Tapatio) was designated the national dance of Mexico in the 1920s. This catchy fast pace tune was written in the 1800s in the region of Guadalajara
Mexico, the birthplace of mariachi music. This tune is most often heard in Mexican style
restaurants and bars throughout the USA and abroad. This is a great short piece for a guitarist to practice fast picking technique. The melody is also written in the treble clef for a flute or violin to take over while guitar or piano plays chords. Choose a comfortable tempo
to start then increase speed until the fretboard begins to smoke!
