Full Accordion Method
Piano and Button Fingerings

Richard Galliano and his father Lucien, long recognized teacher, have written this method together. It is the result of their experience and shared reflections. It will accompany all accordionists, from beginners to confirmed musicians. The authors have chosen to present all pieces with both fingerings: piano or buttons.
All pieces on the CD have been recorded by Richard Galliano.

The fact of writing a new accordion method in collaboration with my father, who has taught me both music and this instrument, is an undertaking which I only dare to assume today, on the eve of my fifty-seventh year.
In fact, I think that teaching and giving the « longing » to play music must be a calling based on experience.
My father, aged eighty-eight years of which fifty-five have been devoted to teaching - while at the same time leading a career as a musician - has trained dozens of young amateur and professional musicians.
He has accomplished to give them all the taste of playing music. As for myself, although having mainly an experience first of studio musician and then of concert artist, I have often taken great pleasure in directing master classes in France and abroad. This is why I am happy to have achieved this method together with my father.

Interesting Alternative for Piano Accordionsts
If you're learning or teaching piano accordion (PA), you're likely used to the Palmer-Hughes series. While they're good books, and I continue to recommend them, this method presents a compelling alternative that can be used instead (or better yet, in addition as a supplement). The main differences are in the left hand. The fingerings reflect the more modern trend of giving more work to the 5th and 4th fingers, which I prefer. (I often wind up crossing out the fingerings in my student's PH books and writing in my own.) You're playing simple LH melody notes right off the bat, with counterbasses introduced early on. The chord buttons (both major and minor!) only come later. The main downside (besides the price) is that the tunes aren't as interesting or fun overall, in my opinion, as the PH ones. Many tend to sound like exercises more than actual melodies. The fact that it is in French, and that it includes CBA fingerings along with PA fingerings, are very easily gotten used to.

A Beginner's Point of View
I was apprehensive about this book as the only French I know is associated fried potatoes. After a few weeks with it I can say the true benefit is the accompanying CD that lets the student hear the exercises. In addition, each page that is cross-referenced to the CD also indicates the proper tempo. When coordinated with a metronome (available for free on the internet) these tools (metronome, CD & required tempo) are very effective. What the book lacks is an index or table of contents. It was quite a while before I figured out that the book included scale and arpeggio exercises. In my opinion as a rank beginner, it should be included along with other study aids one might use in the learning process.

Methode Complete D'Accordeon
I am a CBA player and although I don't speak French, this book is self explanatory. I bought it because I was not happy with the double note fingerings in Anzhagi and the Cambieri Methods. I am very happy with the fingerings not only for the double notes, but for the chromatic and major and minor scales as well - Galliano gives a number of alternative fingerings that are very helpful. I recommend the book highly.
