Messa per il Santissimo Natale Weihnachtsmesse by Giovanni Alberto Ristori 4-Part - Sheet Music

By Giovanni Alberto Ristori

A special mass setting for a special occasion ¬– Giovanni Alberti Ristori’s (Christmas) Messa per il Santissimo Natale. Ristori rose to become vice-Kapellmeister during his years at the Saxon Electoral and Royal-Polish court in Dresden from 1715 to 1753. He composed mainly dramatic music and sacred music for the Catholic Court Church. Ristori’s experience as an opera composer and the first-class orchestra in Dresden, with leading virtuosi in its ranks, led him to combine unusual instrumental sound effects with charming contrasts in the vocal writing in his festive mass of 1744. The musical qualities of Ristori’s Christmas mass can be enjoyed on the CD Weihnachten am Dresdner Hof (Christmas at the Court of Dresden, Carus 83.169) with the Vocal Concert Dresden under Peter Kopp.
