applicare lo stile monodico e ritmico del
canto gregoriano alla lingua italiana. Molti
tentativi in questo senso sono stati fatti
specialmente in area anglosassone,
mentre in Italia non si è ancora ritenuto di
dover tentare questa strada che non è
alternativa alla polifonia ma può essere
perfettamente complementare, come un
tempo convivevano pacificamente canto
gregoriano e canto polifonico.
Aurelio Porfiri ha tentato di rivisitare lo stile
del canto gregoriano, arricchendo anche le
armonie di accompagnamento dell'organo
di armonie senz'altro più moderne di quello
che ci si potrebbe aspettare da un comune
accompagnamento modale.
La Messa è indirizzata a comunità religiose
e parrocchiali con pochi mezzi musicali ma
con il senso ancora vivo del canto liturgico
e della sua funzione nella celebrazione,
una funzione fondamentale che purtroppo
al giorno d'oggi non è più valorizzata.
