It certainly does not have the intention of replacing the existing standard works - from which in any case the writer drew his inspiration. It intends to initiate and introduce the player to these key works. Amateurs who are short of time will, however, find it an effective way of maintaining their daily practice. We should also point out that the book is suitable for both individual and group work. Many music society teachers and leaders will now have available a basic tool which was formerly lacking.
