When it comes to jazz, most people do not immediately think of the cello. However, the cello is a versatile instrument that can play jazzy tunes just as effectively as a violin, and can also provide the strong bass line so important in this style of music. Mellow Cello introduces young cellists to the joy of jazz in a series of tuneful original pieces which progress from open string pizzicato to more challenging rhythms. With the lively piano accompaniments and the accompanying CD, they offer an ideal way for beginners to enter the world of jazz.

Lovely Jazzy Pieces
I've been learning for three years and found that I really enjoyed playing these pieces. The pieces ranged from beginner and progressed to early intermediate. The accompaniments were so jazzy and musical that I felt I sounded much more advanced than i probably did! These are great pieces to learn or simply revise technique. This book is a great teaching tool. The first piece used only open strings.the last was fast with many dotted notes. All are in first position. This is a rare combination of not too difficult but really musical at the same time.

Great practice and lots of fun
I'm a new (adult) cello player and really love this CD. The songs are easy enough to work up to but they don't sound like beginner stuff. Very well-written, with lots of interplay with the accompanist and you. It's great training for pitch, timing, dynamics... and just lots of fun!
