Mel Brooks conceived Young Frankenstein as his Broadway follow-up to The Producers — which holds the record for most Tony Awards ever won by a single musical — and opened it at the Hilton Theatre in November 2007. The idea for "He Vas My Boyfriend" came to Brooks in the shower: he kept hearing Frau Blücher singing it and couldn't stop. The song is a Brecht-Weill pastiche; "Deep Love" is Elizabeth's ecstatic second-act discovery that the Monster has certain attributes her fiancé lacks. Both numbers grow directly out of punchlines — which is exactly what makes them so gleefully, unapologetically funny. This TTBB medley pairs the two silliest, naughtiest tunes in the score into a showcase built for the chorus that refuses to behave.
