He is now mainly known for La Cinquantaine ("The Golden Wedding"), for cello and piano composed in 1887. La Cinquantaine is the second in a collection of two pieces for cello and piano. The first piece in the set is this Lamento. It's a short and beautiful piece that should be played more often. Here is an arrangement for cello and string orchestra. The PDF file contains the score and all instrumental parts.
