Composed as a tribute to Maria Alice, a dear colleague and section partner during Brito’s time as a flutist with the Symphonic Band of the Brazilian Marine Corps (Corpo de Fuzileiros Navais), the piece carries a warm and deeply human atmosphere — like a delicate musical portrait built with respect, admiration, and memory.
“Mariazinha no Choro” moves naturally between the spirit of traditional choro and a contemporary approach to musical language and texture, a hallmark of the series.
