Marana Suite
This four-movement suite was written as a gift to the Marana Winds, a community group that convenes annually in the spring to perform a single concert. It consists of a mix of professionals, community members, music teachers, and music students ranging in age from 12 to 82 (give or take).
The composition of the group creates an interesting challenge for preparing suitable music. Each section has a very capable principal, and some sections have two or three strong members; but there is no depth. Players range from professionals to beginners.
The Intrada, Jaunt, and March were written expressly for the group. The Hymn is an expanded arrangement of a movement from one of my brass quintets. All the movements are quite short and there is minimal development of the thematic material.
Your community or school band may find the piece interesting to play, especially if your group has strong section leads but lacks depth.
