Because of its structure and success, many considered it to be the archetypal Ragtime composition and Joplin was hailed as ‘The King of Ragtime’. It was probably named after the ‘Maple Leaf Club’ in which Joplin played in Sedalia. Arrangements followed for Brass and Dance Bands , and it is now a jazz standard, having been performed by ‘The New Orleans Rhythm Kings ‘, Sydney Bechet and many others.PERFORMANCE NOTES:1. The ‘Solo Section’ is optional.2. Guitar players may use the chord structure on the Piano part, using the same rhythms.3. The arrangement is orthophonic without the optional Tenor Saxophone part.
