Malakatumba was born as a game, using imitating sounds and vocables that could form words with resonances t other languages. there really is no meaning to the sounds. It opens with a 4 voice canon on top of a 3 voice harmonic base. Each voice builds a fun ostinato with colorful harmonies and the use of body percussion as a festive element. It is a work that invites you to dance and sing with joy and rhythm.

Pure Fun and Rhythmic Joy!
What a delightful find! Josu Elberdin's Malakatumba is everything you want in a community choir piece. It truly 'invites you to dance and sing with joy and rhythm.' The use of 'imitating sounds' and 'body percussion' makes it incredibly engaging and easy to jump into. It's definitely achievable for a weekend singer looking for a fun, colorful ensemble experience. Highly recommend for a mood boost!

Excellent Vocal Exercise & Ensemble Building
As a vocal coach, I appreciate Malakatumba's clever construction. The '4 voice canon on top of a 3 voice harmonic base' provides excellent training for vocal independence and blend within an SSA ensemble. The 'fun ostinato' and 'colorful harmonies' are highly engaging, making it a great piece to work on rhythm and ensemble cohesion. The body percussion adds a unique, festive dimension for performance. A strong choice for vocal development.
