This expansive setting of the Canticle of Mary is ideal for festival celebrations of Vespers/Evening Prayer. The congregation sings a substantial, memorable refrain (in Latin), while entire canticle text is set in English for SATB choir in a style reminiscent of the celebrated canticles by Herbert Howells. The refrain/verse pattern is broken around the "golden mean" of the piece by a rhythmic antiphonal dialogue on the Gregorian fifth psalm tone, either between choir and congregation or two choirs.
