Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q20002).The title of Thomas Larcher’s third string quartet, Madhares, refers to the name of a deserted place on the island of Crete which inspired him to compose this work. Larcher developed the piece from repetitions of sounds generated by plucking the strings with a coin. The C major in the second movement Honey from Anopolis evokes the picture of an idealistic time long gone. The idyll is broken by rapid rhythmic movements marked ‘sleepless’.
Le titre "Madhares” signifie une contrée qui n’existe pas, une "Utopia”. Les mouvements "honey from Anopolis" et "...a song from?" tournent autour du même thème : des mondes rêvés et reperdus. Les deux mouvements "sleepless", quant à eux, représentent l’envers et le revers de ces utopies.
