Lyric Music by Robert Starer Concert Band - Sheet Music

By Robert Starer

I wrote Lyric Music in 1963 at the suggestion of a friend who said that band music does not have to be noisy and bombastic. It is an essentially gentle piece, although it does rise to a somewhat impassioned climax. I had originally called it Reverie, a title suggesting dreams, but I like the new title Lyric Music much more and since the trumpet is really featured only at the beginning and the end it need not be included in the title. The work has been unavailable for a number of years and I am very pleased that it is being reissued by Manhattan Beach Music. Ensemble instrumentation: 1 Piccolo, 8 Flute, 2 Oboe, 2 Bassoon, 1 Eb Clarinet, 4 1st Bb Clarinet, 4 2nd Bb Clarinet, 4 3rd Bb Clarinet, 2 Eb Alto Clarinet, 3 Bb Bass Clarinet, 5 1st and 2nd Eb Alto Saxophones, 2 Bb Tenor Saxophone, 1 Eb Baritone Saxophone, 3 1st Bb Trumpet (Cornet), 3 2nd Bb Trumpet (Cornet), 3 3rd Bb Trumpet (Cornet), 2 1st and 2nd Horns in F, 2 3rd and 4th Horns in F, 2 1st Trombone, 2 2nd Trombone, 2 3rd Trombone, 2 Baritone (bass clef), 2 Baritone (treble clef), 4 Tuba, 1 String Bass, 1 Timpani, 6 Percussion
