Composed in 1825 · Beethoven at 54 years old

In his final years, Beethoven still composed short pieces like this écossaise, written as a gesture of friendship for a retired actor. While working on sublime masterpieces, he offered this simple and graceful dance for a charity album, showing his generous and human side.

Did you know…

Beethoven gifted this écossaise to actor Carl F. Müller, who published dance albums to make a living. Other composers, like Schubert, also contributed. Müller proudly kept the manuscript. It’s one of Beethoven’s last piano works, born not from royal commissions but from friendship and compassion.
