Loveliest Night Of The Year by Paul Francis Webster 4-Part - Digital Sheet Music

By Paul Francis Webster

The Loveliest Night of the Year

“The Loveliest Night of the Year” was first published in 1888 by the Mexican composer and violinist, Juventino P. Rosas, originally titled “Sobre las olas” ("Over the Waves"). Generations grew up hearing this tune played on (perhaps) a WurliTzer 153 Band Wagon that accompanied their carousel ride in many a fairground on a sunny afternoon. In 1950 the music was adapted by Irving Aaronson and Paul Francis Webster and featured in the MGM biographical film “The Great Caruso”. It was later recorded by Mario Lanza, thus making it an ‘Italian-American favorite’. This arrangement is scored for 4-part SATB ensemble with piano accompaniment. Performance time: 3:00+- This tune is an excellent opening number for an outdoor summer’s evening community engagement concert, or the theme song for a concert about opera and/or opera singers, or a performance about opera’s connection to it’s sister art form – film.
